Dunsden Community Orchard - Page 3

  • Time to plant at the orchard!

Our hornbeam hedge trees need moving to their final destination and now is the perfect time to get together and do it.

Can you attend a working party this weekend or next (Saturday morning from 10.30 or Sunday afternoon from 2pm)? Please respond.

  • Apple day at Grey's Court

You may be interested in this event at the National Trust's Grey's Court at Rotherfield Greys near Henley on Saturday September 18 from noon to 5pm.

Taste 16 local and traditional varities of apple, receive expert advice on growing apples and take part in children's activities with an apple theme. Members of the orchard will be attending and there will be more news from the orchard soon.

  • Progress made, more on 24/7 at 10.30

IMAG0191.jpgA bad photo of a good couple of hours spent tidying up the orchard and protecting the trees from drought. We are using mulch and matting to lock in moisture, and the farm's bowser to water. The grass has been cut again and is no starting to look quite smart!

There will be more progress when we next meet at 10.30 on Saturday 24 July. Do come along and join in.

We are also holding an AGM meeting this Monday in the Shoulder of Mutton at Playhatch at 8pm (not the Crown) - all welcome. It should be brief and then we can socialise. Please do come along if you can, as we need a good number to pass some changes to our constitution.

  • Postponed!

Manon des Sources has nothing on us!

With apologies, we've had to postpone today's working party. We've been up there this morning trying to water the hedge plants but we couldn't get enough water to do it. We ran hoses from two properties. The farm have kindly offered us a bowser for about a fortnight. Simon is also going to cut the grass in a few days, and Nick will be weed-killering around the trees shortly, so there's really not much to do there today.

I'll be there at 2 for anyone I can't contact now if you feel like having a walk round anyway.

    Enjoy the sunshine!

    David Woodward

  • Your orchard needs you!

It's been ages and the orchard is in bloom. We plan an afternoon of planting the hedge saplings along the border with the village green. The work should be easy and fun, as a trench has already been dug.

Next Sunday, 23 May at 2pm is the time. RSVP, ASAP to David Woodward 07802 433058. Many thanks.
